I’m sorry I haven’t sent an email in some time. I was working in a feverish state to bring you the new Eyeball AI app, but it turned out that I had a fever and it was actually Covid, which I managed to get for the first time ever. And on the five-year anniversary of Covid’s world tour, no less.
I also recently gave a talk for the people behind Sesame Street last month about my articles on the Magical Multiracial Past and the awkward diversity era in film. Mr. Snuffleupagus was there, but only I could see him.
After working on Eyeball for the last eight months, I’ve decided to focus on the personal value of saving links. I think there might be a gap for a beautiful and modern bookmarks management tool. So I taught myself to vibe-code and worked with a talented new developer to rebuild Eyeball from the ground up.
The beta is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. (The web is coming later this month.) I’d love if you’d try it out and tell me what you think.
Every line of code in the new Eyeball is totally redesigned (in React Expo, for those who care) and much, much simpler. You save your bookmarks from anywhere (using the share button, edit, and you can talk to your links with AI. The more bookmarks you add, the smarter Eyeball becomes at understanding you.
You can use the app purely as a bookmarker. But if you want to find a few different links that have some things in common, that’s where AI comes in. Some examples of how you can use it:
"show me all my substacks on this fashion designer"
"summarize these links for me"
"find every YouTube I've ever saved about Paris"
I’d like to make it more proactive over time. We’re thinking of adding weekly summaries of your bookmarks, auto-tagging of your links, the return of the widget to resurface interesting links you may have forgotten about and a few more things.
You’re the first people to see the new app. I’d love your feedback.
This is going to be my last stab at this bootstrapped app thing so we’re going to do it right. We’ll go out in blaze of glory or a blaze of mediocrity. Either way, something is being set on fire.
