Hello, I made an app for people who save lots of links. This is what I’ve been working on for the last few months. Would you like to try it?
It’s called Eyeball and I think of it as a shared iPhone widget for friends with good taste.
The way Eyeball works is:
You and your friends download the app and add the widget
You discover a link; a fascinating, thought-provoking article or an amazing new song or a funny YouTube
You save it and Eyeball sends it to all of you — quickish and right on your home screen
Eyeball is a way to see your friends’ internet on your home screen. It’s also a dead-simple way to save links, either inside the app or by using the share extension.
Why a widget? I fell in love with the form. A widget lives on your home screen, the most important real estate in your life. You see your home screen a million times a day — and that means you might glance at Eyeball a million times a day. When you choose to click on Eyeball, however, is up to you. That’s the beauty of a widget.
Some important things about Eyeball:
There are no notifications
There is no algorithm
There is no public feed. It is private to your phones. This is the world’s most anti-social social network.
We ask for you contacts to invite your friends, but we don’t save the data and we will never text-spam anyone
Eyeball is still very much a work in progress. It took us 17 builds to get to this point and I’m working as a solo founder this time. I consider you friends and family, so you’re getting early access to the app. There are some bugs and Eyeball is still a bit rough around the edges. I’d love your feedback so that I can make it even better.
Next week, I’ll tell you more about why I built Eyeball.
